An increased Transportation Engineering component was introduced to the B.Sc. Civil Engineering curricular in 1992. Under this syllabus, specialised transport courses are taught at third year and fourth year levels.
The third year subject covers highway setting out, construction, design and maintenance and an introduction to transport and traffic engineering theory.
The optional fourth year subject imparts theoretical knowledge of traffic signal design, traffic engineering, highway design and transport planning and operations. Field work including advanced computer packages such as TRIPS, TRANSPLAN are introduced and practicals are designed to gather experience in conducting basic traffic and transport surveys and studies.
